Job Summary:

To provide technical expertise in all aspects of veterinary anesthesia, aseptic surgery support, pre-operative and post-operative care, veterinary clinical and laboratory services, and technical support services.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Administers veterinary treatments as directed.
  • Provides technical support.
  • Participates in daily veterinary rounds and health checks.
  • Collects samples and processes diagnostic tests.
  • Monitors and cares for pre-operative and post-operative veterinary patients.
  • Performs anesthetic induction, maintenance and monitoring.
  • Provides aseptic surgical support.
  • Cleans and sets up operating room and surgical packs.
  • Operates and maintains medical and surgical equipment.
  • Exposes and develops radiographs.
  • Maintains surgical and veterinary records.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Required Education / Experience:

High school or equivalent and two years related experience. Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Graduate or equivalent. 

Equipment: 

Support equipment used in a laboratory animal science multi-species facility including diagnostic and surgical instruments.

Working Environment:

Standard animal resources environment. Must not be allergic to animal dander, or have immunodeficiency diseases. Pregnancy may become a personnel safety factor in some laboratory animal science duties. Potential exposure to radiation and biohazards.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
